ABOUT US

In January 2012, Eamonn Forde, Lucy Jones and Laura Snapes were ribbing each other about their teenaged music passions on Twitter, simultaneously giggling and blushing over the old obsessions that inevitably feed into their current music taste. Inspired by the likes of My Band T-Shirt, they thought it’d be fun to start a blog for everyone to share in the follies of musical first loves and extreme colours-to-their-mast adoration.

It’s all about being blown away by music/a certain pop star to the point where logic doesn’t apply.

There are some rules and regulations:

1. This is NOT a blog about guilty pleasures, because only prats feel embarrassed about enjoying things. How you square that with the fact that these stories are obviously a bit silly or embarrassing is up to you.

2. Similarly, opting out at the end of your post with “I used to like this but now all I listen to is Sun Ra and Neu! as I’m really cool” is BANNED. No Stalinistic historical revisionism permitted.

3. We started this because we were in creases at each other’s anecdotes, so “shits and giggles” are the order of the day rather than poignant confessionals. A simple, 200-ish word statement something that really flipped your wig about music is what we’re after. Though obviously we’re not going to blanket-ostracise any sad popfessions.

4. It can be about any youthful aspect of loving music that now seems funny, daft, charming, embarrassing, silly. Stories of obsession, behaviour that now seems stalker-like, only ever liking Raging Speedhorn to fit in at school, accidentally bursting into tears at a Scouting For Girls song &c &c &c. You get the gist.

If you want to submit one, then email us at popfessions at gmail dot com, or tweet at one/all of us: Eamonn, Lucy, Laura.
