Sarah Hornsey

It was 1981 and I was 8 years old and it was a warm spring evening and my mum got me out of bed to watch the final of the Eurovision song contest (I had already watched Bucks Fizz perform earlier in the evening). And they won! Wow, I was so happy - this meant I got to see that awesome dance routine again! Wow!
Yes, I wanted to be like Cheryl Baker OR Jay Aston - I loved them - I thought they were amazing and spent hours with my two friends singing along to their hits in my friends garage, Making Your Mind Up, The Camera Never Lies and Land of Make Believe, and making up dance routines. I think at one point my friends parents said they’d pay us to shut up… Nothing would stop us though. We had the bug, and we had it bad. At one point I remember writing to Jim’ll Fix It asking if I could dance with them, and I was so gutted when I turned on one week and it was another lucky girl who got to dance with them and not me. Sob, that was real music back then..
