Jon Myers

In 2004 I was 16, which, as everybody knows, is the most important age for any music fan, probably.  When I was 16 I fell in love with bands, albums, singles as deeply as I fell in love with any girl who was willing to talk to me for more than five minutes at a party. And while I may boast of the time I spent with the beautiful Franz Ferdinand or the elusive Libertines, it’s about time I confessed to the long summer evenings and autumn days is spent in the arms of…Delays.

They might not have endured, at all, but I was completely head over heels for the pretty faced and feminine voiced Gilbert Brothers and I listened to ‘Faded Seaside Glamour’ more than any other album that year. Even worse, I highlighted my hair and filled my wardrobe with stripy jumpers, for which Delays were very famous, obviously. In fact, I was wearing one when someone remarked that it resembled something that Kurt Cobain might wear and I sniffed “I think you’ll find I’m dressed like Delays.” Honestly.

It’s not something I talk about very often; it’s not something I’m very proud of. ‘Long Time Coming’ came on my iPod this afternoon, though, and it’s a brilliant song, I think I might buy a stripy jumper.
