Carrie Brownstein

When I was in the 5th grade, it was Madonna. That Like a Virgin tour was the first concert I ever went to. I was obsessed with her, and I remember crying to my mother when I was 10 saying: “Madonna and I will never be friends”. There was that moment for many years when she was such a symbol of power and freedom. She was so masterful in her aesthetic choices and such a chameleon. I wanted to dress like her. I wanted her lace gloves but my parents, of course, would not let me wear anything that looked remotely like her. It’s exciting when you feel like you can’t keep up with an artist.
